About the event
The Icon's Journey Marathon (a proud member of Proudly South African) presents to you it's 4th annual multi-sporting event.
The Icon’s Journey Marathon vision was inspired by President Nelson Mandela’s journey of growing up in the rural villages of the former Transkei homeland to becoming a Global Icon.

RACE INFO
34km Hike
Start at Mhekezweni Great Place on Day 1 and finish at Clarkebury Institution on Day 2.
Day 1:
Tour the home where King Sabata Dalindyebo was born, where K.D. Matanzima grew up, and President Nelson Mandela grew up. Cross over rivers and climb challenging hills.
Day 2:
Tour Clarkebury Village and get an insight into the history of abaThembu during the times of King Vusani ka Ndaba (ah! Ngubengcuka!) to the wars that took place between amaQwathi and abaThembu and touch the first Methodist Church established in Eastern Cape in the 1800s.
ACCOMMODATION INFO
Continuing with the adventure, hikers will be accommodated overnight at Clarkebury High School.
Costs:
R1500 per person.
Entry covers return transport from Mthatha CBD, food, accommodation, Iconic T-shirt and the intimate tour of both villages by a tour guide.
